Did you know that current councilmembers' phone numbers or emails aren't on the city's website? How can the City Council accurately represent our voice when their most basic contact information isn't available to us? This is plain wrong. 8) What are your goals today for life in general? I think my goal is the same as everyone else's -- to provide a comfortable and loving environment for my family and leave this world a little better place than I found it 9) How did you come to live in Victoria? We were drawn to the City of Parks and Lakes as it offers a perfect balance between that small town feel and the conveniences of a big city. This coupled with the wholesome values and pride of the community makes Victoria the perfect place for us to raise our family 10) Where would you like to live in the future? We see our current home as our 'forever' home. We built the home we have always wanted in a great city to raise our kids. 11) Anything else you’d like to say? I'm clearly a much different candidate than the rest. I will not accept the answer "That's the way we've always done it." I will provide a much needed fressh perspective on the Council and will work towards creative solutions. With my background in natural resources, I will be an asset on the Council in regards to what makes Victoria unique, our lakes and parks. I will focus my attention on true priorities and will represent your voice on the Council. After all, this is OUR VICTORIA |

Gordon Simanton, 57 612-801-2000 simanton4cc@gmail.com 375 Highway 7 Education: Eastern Washington University, Mass Communications. Current Job: Print Management Executive Your Family: Wife, Jennifer. Children, Jessica and Drew. Year you moved to Victoria: 1986. Moved from where: Edina Where born and raised: Born in Vancouver, B.C. Raised in Washington State. Occupation of parents: Banker and Nurse 1) Are you happy with the chosen location for the new Victoria City Hall? Yes. I think City Staff and City Council did a very thorough review of all the available locations, balancing both short and long term implications. 2) Is it okay that a new City Hall means an increase in taxes? Historically, people have lived in cities because you can get more done together than you can alone. As a growing city, responsible investments will need to be made. It's been estimated that a $400,000 home will incur an additional $22 per year on their property tax. 3) Are you in favor of a city administrator or city manager form of government? City Manager. First, the majority of cities in Minnesota operate in a city manager form of government (Plan B). Second, empowering a city manager to make some basic decisions will expedite decisions and improve our city services to residents. 4) What are some of the most important things in life to you? Family, keeping your promises, and the importance of a quality educational system. These are core values instilled by my parents. 5) What are some of the least important things in life to you? Titles, status symbols, and entitlements. They lead to behavior I don't admire. 6) Tell about your interest in city government. It's nonpartisan. You can actually get things accomplished and have the satisfaction of leaving something better than when you found it. In 1998 I was appointed to the Victoria Planning Commission and served for 12 years.
