The Scoop

at City Hall

      7) What are your goals for city government in Victoria?  Responsible growth of both business and residential areas, a diverse and balanced tax base, and bringing technology solutions to limit the growth of government.

     8) What are your goals today for life in general?  Leading a life that is purposeful and helping put our grandchildren through college.

     9) How did  you come to live in Victoria?  We came into some acreage in Victoria and we built a home.

     10) Where would you like to live in the future?  Anywhere close to our children.

     11) Anything else you’d like to say?  I have a proven track record on the Planning Commission and I believe I have prepared myself to be an effective leader at the next level of responsibility.  I would appreciate your vote on November 6th.

     Moved from where:  Chanhassen

Where born and raised:  Born in Red Wing.  Moved to Chanhassen in 1978.

    Occupation of parents:  Business owners.

     1) Are you happy with the chosen location for the new Victoria City Hall?  Yes.  There were limited options and this location keeps the building in the downtown area.  It is important to keep local government connected to the businesses and residents.

     2) Is it okay that a new City Hall means an increase in taxes?  I am not sure I am ever okay with a tax increase per se, but this is a time for serious decisions and saying no to something that is necessary just because there may be a tax bill attached doesn't always make for the best policy.  Current City Hall is outdated and in need of costly repairs.  Let's invest in our community today.  When tomorrow comes, any tax increase will be even higher.

     3) Are you in favor of a city administrator or city manager form of government?  City Manager.  Under the current form, the administrator has to go to the City Council to get approval to hire a part time employee for the Rec Center, for example.  A city the size of Victoria doesn't need the Council micro-managing to this extent.  We have capable staff who are more than competent to make these type of decisions.

     4) What are some of the most important things in life to you?  By far, family and friends.  Also the number 37.  I've always had a very close family and friend network which I've cherished.  My wife and kids especially have kept me strong through difficult times.  Without the support of family and friends, what do you have?  And 37 happens to be my lucky number.

     5) What are some of the least important things in life to you?  Movies.  I don't watch movies.  I worked at RST Video during high school and even then, I didn't watch.  I think I've always had a hard time being idle for two hours.
