Dedicated to the sunshine of truth, the moonshine of meeting deadlines, and the starshine of Victoria. |
10) Which Victoria businesses do you support with any frequency? "We are fortunate to have a wide variety of shops and services in Victoria. We are regulars at The School of the Wise, Dairy Queen, Subway, Holiday, Cabin Fever, Roulette's, Storms and Alpaugh (payroll), and KleinBank. We sure do miss Fresh Seasons and I hope they find a new tenant soon." 11) Which are your favorite Victoria events and why? "We have so many wonderful events and activities but Volksfest with all of the different foods, art exhibits, music, bed races, fireworks, and people, is hard to beat." 12) What are some activities that draw you away from Victoria? "The Minnesota State Fair is a must for us every year." 13) Do you believe the City of Victoria is moving in the right direction? Why or why not? "We need to do better. I think we have veered from the practices of good governance. We need to be more open and transparent. We need to make sure the whole council is involved in the discussion and decision process. We need to welcome opposing points of view. It is easy to govern your friends and supporters. The challenge is to govern all of Victoria." 14) What are a couple of your citizen interests/goals if you win election or re-election to the Victoria City Council? "I think more housing options for our senior citizens need to be front and center for the next council. Too many of our seniors have had to leave their friends and family behind because of lack of housing options in Victoria. I would work to partner with Carver County Community Development Authority to bring senior apartments to Victoria. "Also, I really want to see the 13.5-acre site be developed into a mixed use development which could include apartments for seniors, retail, office, and restaurants. I know the challenges in developing this property are many, but I whole heartily believe we can make it happen. I think filling this land with townhomes is the worst possible use for this land. The residents of Victoria have $2.7 million invested in this land and I do not want to see this opportunity to transform Victoria for our next generation lost to a townhome development. "Water rates are going to be a big concern. We need to build a water storage tank and drill a new well at a cost of about $4.5 million and we do not have nearly that amount in our reserves. I want to make sure new construction bears a greater responsibility in meeting these costs." 15) If money were no object, what is an amenity you’d like to see in Victoria? "I would build a water park complete with indoor and outdoor pools, water slides, and water rides. It's always fun to dream!"
