The Victoria GAZETTE |
Mayor Mary Hershberger Thun 952-470-1212 6490 Bayview Place 1) When did you move to Victoria and why did you choose Victoria instead of a neighboring community? “David and I moved to Victoria in 1997, after an extensive search for the ‘perfect property.’ Victoria is close to our family homes in Waconia and to David’s business in Chanhassen. One of our considerations was open spaces, which we certainly have and will strive to maintain in Victoria.” 2) Where were you born and where else have you lived? “I was born in Willmar, MN. My parents lived in Olivia, but at that time the closest hospital was in Willmar. Since then, I have lived in Ruthton, Waconia, Mankato, Minneapolis, and Minnetonka. I also lived in Des Moines, Iowa, for eight years.” 3) Tell us about your family. “My family is very small -- my husband David, stepson Brandon, and five-year old golden retriever dog, Sophia. My extended family includes a brother and sister in law and their families.”

A Date with the Candidates |
by Sue Orsen We learn things on our first date and we learn more on the second date. If that date goes well, there are third and fourth dates and it can all lead to the horse and carriage which, as we know, go together like love and marriage. Analogies can be made between our candidates for public office and their constituency. They make a date to file, citizens make a date to vote, the newly elected make a date to show up at Victoria City Council meetings. After the knot is tied, it’s down to the business of making it all work, like with love and marriage. Three Victoria City Council seats are up for election this November 2nd, 2010. Mayor Mary Hershberger Thun filed to retain her seat; the candidate who also filed for that mayoral position did not reply to the Gazette’s letter and questions. Two residents filed for the seats of Jim Paulsen and Tim Amundsen who chose to not run again. The new candidates are Jim Crowley and Tom Strigel and they both took exceptional time to respond to questions from the Gazette as did Mayor Thun. Make a date to support those who have stepped forward on our behalf, or do a write-in if you’re so inclined. We are fortunate here in Victoria that excellent candidates continue to step forward to make a date with us at the polls. |
