"The Director is responsible for development of the vision and strategic planning for library programs and services, for developing recommendations to the Library Board, for working with community leaders and groups to advance County Library resources and programs, and for implementing and carrying out the decisions of the County Board, County Administration, and the Library Board." 22) What is the role/duty of the Branch Manager of a library? Kathy: "Under the direction of the Library Director, the Branch Manager is responsible for the operations, staff, and direction of one or more County library branches. This position also manages assigned system-wide programs, and directs and supervises branch library programming and services. "The Branch Manager is responsible for the library branch activities. The Branch Manager represents the library with the county and area communities and performs public service duties and reference responsibilities." *** As Kathy pointed out the various areas of interest in the Victoria Library, as well as the wide variety off resources and programs available, I was impressed with her knowledge and her evident love of libraries. Thank you, Kathy, for your time and information. I was impressed with what the Victoria Library offers, and that it is presented in a way that is pleasing to the eye and in comfortable spaces where you can work alone or in a group. Silence is not obligatory in the Library, said Kathy, but hushed tones are encouraged so as not to disrupt others. I was especially amazed to discover that if you have a Carver County Library Card, you can download movies free of charge to watch at home. On the shelves I saw recent movies such as "An American Sniper" and "Unbroken." I recognized Russel Crowe and other popular stars on the covers of DVDs. I recognized "Les Miserables" and many other movies that I've seen at theaters in the past and in very recent times. I was impressed with all the eBooks you can download free of charge if you have a Carver County Library Card. I recognized many books that Allan has read by Ken Follet, for example. I saw many other best sellers. Kathy said that libraries have many resources from which to acquire their books. If the book is on the New York Times Best Seller List, it is mostly likely in the Victoria Library. In addition to eBooks, I saw eAudiobooks that can also be downloaded to smart phones, iPads, and laptops. I was impressed with the most recent edition of several magazines that can be picked up and read whether or not you have a Carver County Library Card, whether or not you have a subscription to the magazine. I was impressed with the Teen Area that included comfortable seating and a large video screen monitor that kids can use to play games or do their homework. I was impressed with the children's area of the Victoria Library, definitely a destination that includes books -- both factual and fiction -- story times, activities, puzzles, and scores of children's movies.
