3) Who designed the layout of the inside space in the Victoria Library? Kathy: "The architecture firm of Leo A. Daly, with architect Cindy McClearly, designed the space with direction from former Carver County Library Director Nick Dimassis and input from the City of Victoria, community members, and library staff." 4) Who decorated it and chose the attractive colors, carpet, and furnishings? Kathy: "The architecture firm of Leo A. Daly used their interior designers, though input from some Victoria residents was sought on furniture and colors." 5) Who chooses the books, magazines, and other resource materials at the Victoria Library? Kathy: "The Carver County Library has librarians assigned to select library materials for adult, teen, children's, and media areas. These librarians choose most of the collection materials for all of the Carver County libraries including the Victoria Library. "There are opportunities for library users to request the library consider purchase of materials or to borrow materials from any Carver County Library or library in the State of Minnesota." 6) How is this “shopping” done? Kathy: "The library has a selection process policy that guides selection. Most materials are purchased through vendors that work with libraries to locate, purchase, and process the items the library selects." 7) How is the Library Board involved in the library collections? Kathy: "The Library Board approves all library policies including the selection policy. They also have input on library budgets including the amount of resources requested for collections." 8) Does the Victoria Library also have eBooks, audio books, DVDs, CDs? Kathy: "The Victoria Library has DVDs, audiobooks, and CDs for youth and adults. All of the Carver County Library patrons have access to eBooks, eAudiobooks, and eMagazines via the library website at www.carverlib.org. "In addition, the Victoria Library is our only library with discovery stations for 3M eBooks and Overdrive eBooks that allow for downloading of eBooks on those stations in the library." 9) Does the Victoria Library have sets of encyclopedias like Britannica or World Book or Giant Dictionaries? Kathy: "The Victoria Library has a set of World Book Encyclopedias in paper format. Via our library computers and from home, library users have access to Encyclopaedia Britannica as well as a full range of subscription databases for magazine articles, biographical information, financial databases, and many more from the library website." 10) Do patrons pay for any materials or services offered at the Victoria Library? Kathy: "Patrons pay for making photocopies, printing from computers, and faxing." 11) Is there always space for new resources materials? Kathy: "Yes. As use of the library grows, higher amounts of the library collection will be checked out and will make space available for new materials."
