         12) Do you switch out old or used books or move them to another outlet as new things arrive?

Kathy: "We have not started doing that yet at the Victoria Library due to the fact that every book in the Victoria Library is brand new.  We may switch some of the new adult fiction items to other Carver County libraries as the items age in order to make space for new items at the Victoria Library.

         13) How do you familiarize yourself with material before it’s made available in the Library?

Kathy: "Our staff in library administration receive all new items for the library system and check for correctness of our orders and quality of the materials.  The items are then sent to our branch libraries where staff have the opportunity to look at them before they are shelved."

         14) Computers put the whole world at our fingertips today.  Are their various locks or safeguards on the computers at the Victoria Library to protect against predators and pornography?

Kathy: "Our Carver County Library System has filtering software installed on our public-use computers and Wi-fi."

         15) How many computer stations are in the Victoria Library?

Kathy: "The Victoria Library has 14 public use computers and 8 ipads for public use.  This is in addition to the library catalog station, self-checks, print station, reservation station, staff stations, and 12 laptops used for computer classes."

         16) How does that compare to the number of computers at the Chanhassen, Chaska, and Waconia libraries?

Kathy: "No other library has public use ipads.  Chanhassen has 26 computers for general pubic use, Chaska has 24, and Waconia has 18 public computers."

         17) I remember learning about the Dewey Decimal System.  What classification system is used in the Victoria Library?

         Kathy: "Dewey Decimal System."

         18) Is it used across Carver County?

         Kathy: "Yes."

         19) How many staff or volunteers does it take to run the Victoria Library?

Kathy: "We  have the full time equivalent of 4.75 staff members in addition to manager time.  The 4.75 staff include 1 1/2 librarians, 1 1/2 library technology assistants, 3 half time library assistants, and 10 hours of shelver time.

         20) Do you anticipate the busiest or least busiest times at the Victoria Library?

Kathy: "It is too early to tell, though generally we are busier before and after programs.  So far, Saturdays, Mondays, and Wednesdays have been busy."

         21) What is the role/duty of Library Director Heidi Hoks?

Kathy: "The Carver County Library Director serves the residents of Carver County by leading the development and provision of excellent library programs and resources available to the public.

"At the direction of the Assistant County Administrator, the Carver County Library Director is responsible for the leadership and management of the County's Library System including its staff, collections, programs, finances, and operations . . .
