To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  I loved the birthday tribute to your father.  I lost mine too young.  They built this country with hard work and love of God and country, don't you agree?  Thanks for the Gazette.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  The ladies at Waterbrooke are hosting a fabulous tea party in honor of my departure soon.  I don't know many details, but I believe it is going to be the Tea Party of The Year.  I have heard little bits and pieces and it might make for some wonderful photos in the next Gazette.  It is Saturday, March 14th.  Drop in if you can.

To the Editor:

In January I had the great honor to be named the Administrator of the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District.

This agency protects and improves ground and surface water resources in a vital and dynamic 181-square mile area that includes 29 communities from near my home community of Minnetrista, through Lake Minnetonka, Minnehaha Creek, the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes, and Minnehaha Falls to the Mississippi River in south Minneapolis.

I look forward to dedicating my education, professional experience, and passion to this important work.  Clean water and healthy ecosystems are essential for livable communities.

The state-required plan will prioritize resources to high need areas within the District to make significant lasting improvements to the most sensitive water challenges in the watershed.  It will pursue project partnerships, grant funding, education programming, assistance with permits, and prevention of aquatic invasive species.

We have a lot of challenging work ahead but that's a good thing.  Sustaining our watershed's resources requires unrelenting effort, sound science, creative solutions, and teamwork.  I hope you will join us.

To the Editor:

Not all lakes are created equal and that certainly is the case with more than 11,000 lakes in Minnesota.

The second annual Shallow Lakes Forum will explore the challenges and benefits of shallow lakes, which need to be managed differently than their deep counterparts.  Attendees will learn techniques for managing shallow lakes and the role of plants in this management.

The event will be held Saturday, April 25th, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the MacMillan Auditorium at the MN Landscape Arboretum.  Anyone who lives on or near a shallow lake or would like to learn more about how to care for shallow lakes is welcome to attend.

Shallow lakes average 15 feet or less in depth.  They account for about 1/3 of Minnesota lakes.  Fee for the forum, which includes a light breakfast, is $15 for Arboretum members and $20 for nonmembers.
