To the Editor: State Representative Jim Nash of Waconia has been appointed to the Legislative Commission on Metropolitan Gov't. The commission is responsible for recommendations made to the Metropolitan Council such as the rate and dollar amount of property tax levies implemented by the Metropolitan Council, requests for an increase in debt of the Metropolitan Council, the size and scope of the Metropolitan Council, and budget requests of the Metropolitan Council. As the former mayor of Waconia, Representative Nash knows the impact that Metropolitan Council actions have on cities large and small. To the Editor: Hi, Sue. Here's a check for my subscription to the Gazette. I love reading it every month. You do a wonderful job with your paper. The story on Chub and Celeste Aretz (which was reprinted from your December 1984 Gazette) was great. I spent many good times with them, enjoying Celeste's meals and staying overnight when I was a kid. Pam Aretz and I were good friends through 1st grade on and still are special friends to each other. So glad to hear there might be a grocery store coming back to Victoria. It sure is handy for my mother, Snip Steinberger, who needs something closer to get her groceries. Keep up the good work. To the Editor: Clever editorial in March ("I was sitting ...") You are a very good writer. The best. An incredible talent. Youtieitalltogetherwithawellspunthread. Al Orsen Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: How do I get an extra copy or two of the Victoria Gazette? I'd like to send my article that I wrote to my two sisters, one in Wisconsin and the other in Texas. Both of them are writers. Thank you. Pastor Harlan Seri Minnewashta Church Shorewood, Minnesota
To the Editor: The Southwest Metro Chamber of Commerce is pleased to host the 31st annual Taste of Chaska. This highly publicized community event attracts nearly 2,000 area residents annually and offers tremendous opportunities for area businesses to participate. This event is open to the public and there is no charge to attend. If the Southwest Metro area is your market, let the Taste of Chaska connect you as a vendor to nearly 2,000 potential customers and create a positive impact for your business. Trisha Horsmann SW Metro Chamber of Commerce
To the Editor: I am on the Human Rights Committee for Chaska. Once a year we vote on who is to be presented with the honor of recognition and a plaque for meeting the needs of the community or individual. We have chosen St. John's Lutheran Church in Chaska for their unique service to all community members with a free evening meal served every Monday from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. regardless of weather and only exceptions of Christmas, New Year's, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. The Gathering Place is staffed by a volunteer coordinator and voluntary workers. Funding is received in total from contributions of individuals and community groups, both in monetary form as well as donations of grocery items and also prepared foods that would otherwise go to waste. Desserts are contributed by volunteers. A wide cross section of community residents have been taking advantage of the meal program with varying age groups and cultural backgrounds. A full range of circumstances bring the guests including individuals who have lost a loved one and find themselves alone. Also single parents, those with health problems, teens and full family units are regular customers. The number of people served each Monday evening ranges from 60 to 100. Judy Grosch Chaska, Minnesota
