"So while I have a lot of questions and concerns about all the emails that were written to me -- because once government gets involved it's, and I hate to say this because I'm part of it, but it's a no-win situation. "But I encourage you, please, don't come back to us after tonight. Please work it out. It's all of our lakes. Please work it out. These kinds of things make it difficult to do a good job, when we are faced with these kind of things. I'm very, very sorry this couldn't be handled in the neighborhood." Said Councilmember Roden, a reident on Schutz Lake, "We did try that, Mayor, and you may not know that. Back in February I reached out to the lakeshore owners to try to engage the lakeshore group to get involved. I specifically had a note to them to work this out so we could avoid going through this process. "Unfortunately, the lakeshore owners property group was at that time sort of defunct, and there was no one to step forward to engage. The group has since re-emerged and voted to support financially the conditional use permit ... I believe the system worked." A letter from Roger and Paula Jackels, residents on Schutz Lake expressed concern about Aquatic Invasive Species.
UPDATES ON HWY 5 CONSTRUCTION MAGIC DATES ARE GETTING CLOSER City Engineer Cara Geheren reported on July 9th that Hwy 5 was now closed from 78th Street in downtown Victoria east to Hwy 41. "Obviously it was a busy day of phone calls," she said. "People drive eight or nine miles out of their way to get to Lifetime Fitness. MnDOT says it takes from days up to a week for traffic patterns to develop. The intersection of Hwy 7 and Hwy 41 took some people three cycles to get through ... "We're getting a speed trailer for 78th Street. Traffic is down in downtown Victoria. Traffic is up on Bavaria Road. We'll continue to monitor things ... "Starting tomorrow, there will be mill and overlay work in downtown and sidewalks poured between County Road 11 and the Holiday Station ... "At the intersection of Hwy 5 and Co. Rd. 11, that intersection will go down for a time. Traffic will back up. Work downtown should be done by the end of the week. "For folks living off Park Drive, there have been problems getting out of there. They need to go across to Kochia, then there were three barricades preventing driving across to Kochia. They were pulled apart to let people through." Asked Mayor Mary Thun, "Will business access be maintained?" "Yes," replied Cara, "but it'll be slow." As of July 9th, Hwy 5 was practically totally ripped up from Hwy 41 in Chanhassen to the Dairy Queen in Victoria. Stated City Engineer Cara Geheren on July 23rd, "August 14th is the magic date for this stage of construction that started July 9th, when we'll be able to access Victoria more directly. There are incentives for them to finish. I get several calls now about people being inconvenienced." She said there was good news in regard to the underpass tunnel being constructed at Minnewashta Parkway near the Arboretum. "The contractor found better than expected soils and it didn't rain." Regarding the bridge replacement near the Dairy Queen, Cara said, "It is also moving along nicely. Work is happening six days a week. August 30th is the magic date here." There was discussion about reviewing clarity of the detour signs.
