Love in a Dog’s World continued |
♥ Georgia Eck of Chanhassen loves Bailey, her 16-month old Yellow Lab who rolls in the snow, “because she brings a lot of joy to our home,” she said. “Bailey is sweet and fun. She rarely barks but has a lot to say. She is a whiner, and that’s how she lets us know when she wants to eat or play or go outside.” In good weather, Georgia likes to visit the dog park twice a day with Bailey, but in winter it’s only four to five time a week. “My husband Jerry is retired and I only work part time, so we’ve got the time,” she said. “Bailey needs a lot of activity. I like the Victoria Dog Park. It’s so big and open and that makes it easy to see the dog. It’s nice they have the poop bags and a portable potty for people. But there’s very little shelter here when it’s windy or cold. There’s lots of protection from wind at the Minnewashta Dog Park between Highways 5 and 7, but during the spring, summer, and fall, that place has standing water that can get pretty nasty.” |
♥ Roger Gilbertson of Chanhassen loves Dakota, his 4-year old Yellow Labrador Retriever. “The breed is very loyal,” he said. “He’s a great dog. I’ve got a wife and two daughters and a female cat and I needed some male companionship so got Dakota. He loves to play and is great with families.” Roger visits the Victoria Dog Park three to four time a week and stays until he thinks the dog is wore out, 45 minutes in the winter, longer in the summer. “It’s a great dog park,” he said. “I like the amenities and the land. It’s big enough where we don’t run into a lot of people and dogs, and the cost is cheap. Thirty dollars for the year is good for all of Three Rivers Park. This is a great area. I’d like to see some benches here to sit down on, however, on one of the paths or down by the lake. It’d be especially nice for older people.” Sometimes he walks the perimeter with his wife Nancy. “It’s a social scene,” he added. Roger also takes Dakota to the dog park in Eden Prairie at Shady Oak and Highway 212.
