Lincoln's Birthday. Sunday, February 12th. Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, was born on February 12th, 1809, and assassinated on Good Friday, April 14th, 1865, by John Wilkes Booth.

Valentine's Day. Tuesday, February 14th. Valentine was a Catholic priest who lived in the Third Century and was executed (beheaded) in Rome on February 14th, 269, for helping Christians who were being persecuted during the reign of Emperor Claudius.

Presidents' Day. A federal holiday held on the third Monday of February. Monday, February 20th. Has come to honor all American presidents, but especially George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

Washington's Birthday. Wednesday, February 22nd. George Washington, first president of the United States was born on February 22nd, 1732. He died on December 14th, 1799, at his home, Mount Vernon, of a throat infection.

Ash Wednesday. Wednesday, February 22nd. The first day of Lent. Occurs 46 days before Easter. Commemorates the 40 days of fasting that Jesus spent in in the desert before the beginning of His public ministry nearly 2,000 years ago. First clear evidence of Ash Wednesday occurs in 960 A.D.
