THANK YOU, TIM AMUNDSEN AND JIM PAULSEN FOR TIME AND ENERGY ON VICTORIA CITY COUNCIL Mayor Mary Thun gave several words of recognition and thankfulness to outgoing Councilmembers Tim Amundsen and Jim Paulsen on Monday evening, December 13th. Both councilmembers served two stints on the council, from 1995 to 2001 and from 2007 to 2011. Councilmember Paulsen was unable to be present for this last council meeting of 2010. Councilmember Amundsen’s was “a voice of reason,” said Mayor Thun. “I am pleased and honored to have served with you.” Stated Tim, “I was very pleased and honored to serve with you. Thank you to the residents for letting me represent them.” The mayor also presented a large Christmas poinsettia to Tim’s wife, Wendy, stating, “It’s a small token of the city’s appreciation. I think it’s very important to recognize spouses and all that they have to put up with,” referring to the numerous meetings and hours councilmembers spend away from home and family on behalf of the residents of Victoria. “I think it’s very important to recognize the spouses when we say thank you,” she added. Continued Mayor Thun, “I’ve got a plaque for Jim, too, and a plant for his wife Kathy. Jim was mainly responsible for resolution of the Field House, now the Recreation Center, now making some money. We are thankful for everything both he and Tim did to get us to the position we are in today with the Victoria Recreation Center.” Added Mayor Thun, “Jim also made us think about different ways of thinking about things in our budget. For that I am very appreciative, too, and if he didn’t think of it, I often heard from Tim, who would ask, ‘What does Mr. Paulsen think about that?’ Truly, the two of them the city owes a lot to -- if for no other reason, for all of the time they have put into it. I hope we will continue to hear words of wisdom from them.”
VICTORIA SHARES BUILDING INSPECTION WITH THE CITY OF MINNETRISTA Council approved an agreement with the City of Minnetrista for building inspection services, having submitted a proposal in response to a RFP from the City of Minnetrista. [RFP stands for Request for Proposals.] Holly Kreft, the City of Victoria’s Community Development Director, stated on December 13th, “We responded to an RFP. There were four responses. We were the only city to respond. They voted unanimously to contract with the City of Victoria.” The City of Victoria will provide services on an hourly basis for all plan review and inspections, handle all of the building inspection scheduling, and bill Minnetrista on a monthly basis for time and mileage. The contract began January 1st and will be in place for three years with the potential for renewal. According to the agreement, Minnetrista shall compensate Victoria $65 an hour for Tom Gray’s services and $50 an hour for Bill Schwanke’s services. Tom Gray is Victoria’s Building Official. Bill Schwanke is Victoria’s assistant building inspector. In addition, Victoria shall bill for mileage. Commented Victoria City Administrator Don Uram, “They did indicate it was the best RFP they’ve ever received. Holly did it.” Mayor Mary Thun personally thanked both Holly Kreft and Tom Gray.
