OSPREY IN VICTORIA. He was bobbing his head up and down, into the nest, most likely feeding his young ones. I've read that 99% of the osprey diet is fish, which explains why they're hanging around the City of Lakes and Parks. Osprey have special eyesight that allows them to see objects underwater and they dive in feet first. I took these photos on Saturday, June 21st, at the entrance to the Lowry Nature Center in Victoria. Bet this guy doesn't have any water in his basement. Al Orsen Victoria, Minnesota
CHRISTINE PIWNICA. It's been an exciting and celebratory month at the Piwnica household here in Victoria as Christine recently graduated from Southwest Christian High School with Highest Honors (3.8 to 4.0 cumulative GPA) and won the Class A State Golf Tournament by a nine-stroke victory. A friend took this photo of Christine in action at the Class A State Golf Tournament at Pebble Creek up in Becker, MN, on June 11th. We are very proud of our daughter and thank God for His many blessings. It's been a great ride. Blessings on your day. Beth Piwnica Victoria, Minnesota
\ A CENTENNIAL IN TIOGA, ND. Hi, Mom. It's done. Hooray! Everything turned out great. Father Benny seemed pleased. People liked the book I did for our Church and many signed up to order it. Our speaker Dale Ahlquist was well received. Talk about a small world! I picked up Dale at the Minot Airport -- he flew in from Minneapolis -- and we talked all the way back to Tioga. Come to find out, we are both graduates of Carleton College and we both know Fred Plocher. I told him Fred was my neighbor when I was growing up in Victoria, and Dale said that he worked for a while with Fred in real estate. Can you believe it? I didn't ask Dale exactly how he came to be such a fan of G.K. Chesterton, but I told him that you liked Chesterton, too, and has quoted him in the Gazette. Did you know that Dale is a co-founder of Chesterton Academy in Minneapolis? My next question is, Mom, when can you and Dad come and help me and Chris clean chickens? Have you got some time in August? Love you, Jenny
