I fondly recall days of the old Victoria Commercial Club and the old Victoria Chamber of Commerce. The monthly meetings seemed more for socializing than for "networking" and pushing business. Thus, we seldom if ever had to worry about people showing up. Prior to our delicious meals together at the Village Hall, we could count on Arnold Notermann or Marvin Storms or Ed Vanderlinde or John Notermann to bring our favorite appetizer -- pickled northern pike. I was surprised how they got the bones to dissolve in whatever brine they used. The fish meat was white and firm and tasty. Mmmm. Now I've got a husband who does the same thing -- goes fishing, brings home large northern pike, and pickles them. The bones dissolve. The fish meat is white and firm and tasty. Just like in the old days. Mmmm. One fish alone made four quarts. I'm not into fishing, just into hiding fishhooks. Last month it was wrapped around the "y" in the KleinBank ad. I played around in the minnow bucket of entries and pulled out Barbara Johnson from Sacred Heart, Minnesota, to win the $10 drawing. Congratulations, Babs. There's another fishhook hidden in this issue of the Gazette. If your find it and wish to be part of this drawing, drop a line telling of its whereabouts and sinker in the mail to Box 387, Victoria, MN 55386 or use Sue@VictoriaGazette.com. Now don't go and get pickled on the Fourth. |
