To the Editor: You do a great job with all the school listings. Thank you, Sue. Elaine Scholl Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Just sending you a plug for daughter Maggie, granddaughter of Julianne Wartman. Glad to see you and Al (albeit briefly) at Ben's wedding. Sorry to say that we will probably not be back in Minnesota until Christmas. Hope to see a resumption of Mike's columns in the Gazette. Pat Wartman Silver Spring, Maryland x To the Editor: Severe thunderstorms pounded the Upper Midwest the week of June 15th with torrential rains and damaging winds. Since Saturday, June 14th, Xcel Energy crews have safely restored electricity service to nearly 225,000 impacted customers. Xcel Energy is urging caution for customers who may be experiencing flooding in their homes and businesses. In certain flood-related situations, Xcel Energy may need to disconnect electric and/or natural gas service to ensure customer safety. Customers are encouraged to contact Xcel Energy customer service at 1-800-895-4999 with concerns or questions. Patti J. Nystuen, Media Relations Xcel Energy Minneapolis, Minnesota
To the Editor: Sincerely enjoyed the festive gathering of Fred Plocher's book launch of his new novel, Stealing Watermelons. Half way through the book, I am finding nostalgic amusement recalling my growing up years in the '50's. 'Twas the best of times. During your interview with Fred at the Deer Run Country Club, substituting for Barbara Walters, he made a thoughtful point for all of us attending, to ponder the question, if we thought we had a book inside of us. Yes, the discussion at my table that evening was, indeed, that most people do have a book within them. It was a good interview, Sue. It produced a better understanding of the writing and publishing challenges and prompted an interesting Question and Answer period. I'm eager to read more of Fred's adventures. Stan Hamerski Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Thanks for attending the Bike Konnect event on Saturday. We sure appreciate it. Sam Pertz Carver County Parks, MN

To the Editor: "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven." We all know that saying, either from the Bible or from the Pete Seeger song. I guess that the season of Spring just ended. Summer supposedly began a few days ago. (I'm aware I capitalized the seasons. I think they should be.) Spring is supposed to bring rain. April showers bring May flowers. (We capitalize the months, why not the seasons?) Well, if the purpose of Spring is rain, it was successful. Some would say it's been too much of a good thing -- some, such as farmers, golf courses, marinas, outdoor restaurants, lakeshore homeowners, etc. So I've been thinking about time. Is time circular or linear? Is life a timeline or a circle? A clock is circular, but a digital watch just flashes the numbers. Maybe time is both linear and circular. Some of us haven't slept much during this "time." I would worry less if I saw life as more circular and less linear. But the nonstop rain almost brought our golf season to an early end. Fortunately, we recovered nicely. And because of the exceptional talents of our Superintendent Barry Provo, we're actually in good shape. Whether time is circular or linear, I just need to stop worrying and be thankful. That is probably the purpose of every season. Tom Abts, Deer Run GM Golf Pro Victoria, Minnesota |
