87 LOTS OKAYED FOR MEADOWS OF WASSERMANN LAKE

IN PRELIMINARY PLAT OF THE DEVELOPMENT STAGE

         Council approved the preliminary plat on June 26th for Meadows of Wassermann Lake.  It includes 87 single family lots which will come back to the city for final approval in two final plats.  Homes are proposed to be priced around $400,000.  The 59 acres are located on the north side of Marsh Lake Road.  The development connects to the Wassermann Lake Woods development to the north, which is adjacent to Wassermann Lake, and Lakeside Estates to the east.

 

SHOULD SW TRANSIT PROVIDE SERVICE IN VICTORIA?

IT DIDN’T WORK IN 2003 AND EVERY HERE HAS A CAR

         Council held a workshop on Monday evening, June 12th, to acquire information on SouthWest Transit, a bus service currently focused on the cities of Chanhassen, Chaska, and Eden Prairie with an unofficial  service to the City of Carver under a matching grant situation.  As Victoria City Manager Laurie Hokkanen stated, "This workshop is to help get acquainted with how transit works."

 

TWO DOZEN HOMES COMING TO HILLPOINTE

ON EAST SIDE OF BAVARIA ROAD IN VICTORIA

         Council held a public hearing June 26th and approved the preliminary plat for Hillpointe, a neighborhood of 24 homes (two existing) on 24 acres of the former Vanderlinde property on Bavaria Road.  Developer Terry Hartman of Hartman Communities had presented in April three concepts for the property with small, medium, or larger lots.  Neighbors and also the Planning Commission preferred the larger lot concept.  Net acreage is 11+ acres

 

TRYING TO HELP LAKE ZUMBRA AND ITS HIGH WATER

WITHOUT MAKING IT A NO-WAKE LAKE

         Council held a public hearing on June 26th and voted 5-0 to amend a city ordinance on Waterways.  The amendment adds emergency no-wake restrictions for Lake Zumbra.  Since May 5th, Mayor Funk has issued a series of three-day emergency no-wake orders for Lake Zumbra.  This new amendment extends that limit to 30 consecutive days of emergency no-wake restrictions.

 

ONE MORE APPROVAL FOR VICTORIA LIONS PROJECT

A STONE’S THROW AWAY FROM BREAKING GROUND

         Council voted 5-0 on June 12th to approve the city either waiving or paying certain utility and roofing fees totalling $43,270 in regard to a building proposal from the Victoria Lions.  The Victoria Lions are ready to spend $305,000 on a remodel and new construction project at the North Shelter of Lions Park.  As requested, the city will waive $4,800 in building permit fees, pay $4,970 in SAC or WAC utility charges, pay Xcel charges which could add up to $25,000, plus contribute the $8,5000 the city had planned to spend on reroofing.

 

MORE PARKING FOR ROSE STREET LOT

BEHIND THE NOTERMANN BUILDING

         On June 26th, Council accepted bids and awarded a contract to Sunram Construction for $256,385 to complete the second phase of the Rose Street Parking Lot, expanding it to include space behind the Notermann Building since Alphabet Junction has moved to its new location.  The entire private parking space behind the Notermann Building is proposed to be deeded and donated by Hartman Communities to the City of Victoria for public parking.  The former playground area will provide an additional four public parking spaces.

 

CITIZENS APPEAL TO STOP APPEAL LAWSUIT

“DO IT FOR US, THE PEOPLE OF VICTORIA”

         Judy Black, Woodstone Drive, spoke during the Open Forum on June 10th.  “I've learned that Victoria residents really don't like conflict.  I hope you don't take this petition lightly.  People are struggling to sign it.  There is fear of repercussion for signing it, for speaking out.  Please stop the litigation.  Do it for us, the people of Victoria."

 

TOTAL POOL PACKAGE ESTIMATED AT $14.2 MILLION

WILL PEOPLE STILL WANT IT WHEN THEY SEE THE BILL?

         Last year in 2016, Council approved an expenditure of $20,000 for a Swimming Pool Feasibility Study.  A 77-page draft feasibility report was completed and presented to the public at the June 12th, 2017, city council meeting.  Total pool package in 2017 dollars includes $6.3 million for two pools (multi-use pool and a children's pool) plus $7.9 million to enclose it for year round use.  Total package:  $14.2 million.

 

SHORTER CITY SCOOP FROM JUNE

PART OF MARSH LAKE ROAD AT 35 MPH

         Council passed a resolution establishing a speed limit of 35 mph on that portion of Marsh Lake Road that is to be within a rural residential district.  It lies 1200 feet east of the middle of its intersection with Lakeside Drive to 3500 feet west of its intersection with Victoria Drive.  That gravel road is scheduled for improvement to become a county road with construction occurring in 2019 at the earliest.
