I must admit that I did not see any fish at this year's Ice Fishing Contest on Stieger Lake in Victoria. Of course, I'm not fond of hanging around with fish. I prefer the company of people. People are much more photogenic than fish as you can see from my front page story. When is the last time a fish smiled back at you?

But, thankfully, there are avid fishermen, or otherwise there wouldn't be the annual ice fishing contests that are held throughout this land of 10,000 lakes. I only attend one of them, the one in Victoria because Victoria is my hometown. What would we do without a hometown!

Someone from our hometown won the $10 drawing this month since it was Elaine Scholl who got plucked from the minnow bucket. She found the fishhook hiding in the leg of the pizza guy on page 12. Congratulations, Elaine. Hello to Bill.
