The Victoria GAZETTE |
To the Editor: Thank you for the $10 check for finding the fishhook and getting my name drawn out of the minnow bucket. I enjoy the Gazette and wait for it each month. I especially enjoy the stories about old Victoria, as that is where I grew up. I remember my days at the St. Victoria Catholic School and Church. I also remember the Saturday Night Band Concerts. There was an elderly gentleman who lived in the corner house and when kids came up to him to say hi, he would give us a nickel and we would run across the street to get an ice cream cone. He created a memory that I never forgot. Those were really the good old days. Julie (Kaley) Willems Waconia, Minnesota
To the Editor: Loved that column last month that Mike Wartman wrote on his Aunt Elizabeth's house. So sweet. Also, very kind of you to place his "ad" directly under the article. The new owners plan on restoring the home and will be taking before and after photos, so there may be a follow-up story for you. Who knows! It was a pleasure for me, as their realtor, spending time there when having opens and showings. Nan Emmer Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Thank you so much for the article on Mount Olivet West's Feed My Starving Children project last month. It was a great event and we exceeded our goal of 100,000 meals. At the final count 101,088 were packed. The energy, competitiveness, and happy smiles of the participants drifted out our doors on Rolling Acres Road and throughout the community. It was a fun way to help and we were honored to do it. Judy Crawford Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Happy St. Patrick's Day! Blimey! It's March already? March 11th is daylight savings time and turn the clocks forward an hour. Saturday the 17th is St. Pat's day. I'm not Irish. I'm German and Dutch. I don't like corned beef and cabbage. I don't even like sauerkraut. To me that's sewerkraut. Eeew! Sauerkraut was fixed at home but in a small batch as most of us hated it. I have Dennis the Menace taste buds. No green veggies except celery and peas, then potatoes, corn, raw carrots. That's the sum of my veggie department. Another month and it's Easter, then no more fish dinners. I eat plain spaghetti or ramen noodles with tomato soup. Toss out the spices. For Lent, Mom would make scrambled eggs, creamed peas, and fried potatoes. If you soak the sliced spuds in water to get the starch out, they cook faster. I tried to talk Mom into making plain spaghetti for Lent, "Ach, Dad won't like that." After she passed on, I fixed plain spaghetti and Dad ate two big plates full. He hates fish. The fishhook is on page 12 in the Gina Maria's pizza ad. Happy 89th birthday, Dad. Kay Meuwissen Chaska, Minnesota
To the Editor: Enclosed is a check for $20 for a subscription of the Victoria Gazette to my brother in law in Chaska, Elmer Deis. He lives alone since my sister died. He enjoyed the paper I sent him and the story, "A Room at the Inn," about Don's family. Could you send him your February issue? I am sure he would like your story, "Like the Klondike." Thank you so much. Joanne Drew Aitkin, Minnesota
