Daylight Savings.  Daylight Savings Time begins this year on Sunday, March 11th, at 2:00 a.m. and ends on Sunday, November 4th, at 2:00 a.m.  Clocks are moved one hour forward in spring and they fall back one hour in the fall.  The idea of Daylight Savings time was conceived by Benjamin Franklin.

St. Patrick's Day. Celebrated each year, internationally, on March 17th, the date of Patrick's death in 460 A.D.  Born in Scotland, he was ordained a Catholic priest in 432 and sent to Ireland by Pope Celestine to convert the Irish.

Spring Begins.  Tuesday, March 20th, 2012.  Often occurs on March 21st.  Also called the vernal equinox, it occurs when the center of the sun crosses directly over the earth's equator, as the earth is tilted neither away nor toward the sun.  It's when daylight and darkness are nearly identical in length -- 12 hours each -- at the equatorial plane.
