THIS YEAR’S LIONS DISTRICT 5M2 WINTER CONVENTION in Mankato, Minnesota, had a lumberjack theme. All participants were requested to wear a buffalo red plaid shirt. We suspect that we will hold the Guinness World Record for the most number of buffalo plaids in one gathering! Convention dates for 2016 were February 12th, 13th, and 14th. The Victoria Lions Club was also responsible for helping host this year's event. That includes supplying small gift bags for all the registered participants, which was around 300 to 400 in number. Host clubs also help with such duties as luncheon and dinner settings. I don't have an accurate count of how many Victoria Lions attended the Mankato Convention because some Victoria Lions were coming and going during the three-day event. A safe count would be about a dozen. My picture (above) was taken looking at the Lions group from behind as they were chatting and laughing and responding to a photographer in an upper balcony room. The picture was taken inside the Mankato City Center Hotel. We serve the community and have fun while doing it. Victoria Lion Kurt Zuppke Lake Pierson, Laketown Township

FOUR COUSINS are supporting the new Carver County Veterans Memorial and Registry. Pictured (l-r): David Heldt (Watertown), Mel Hazelwood (Victoria), Curt Heldt (Mayer), and Stan Heldt (Mayer). Davi, Mel, and Stan each served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve. They have purchased their pavers and are recording their stories for the Registry. Each cousin has given personally or through a business towards the Memorial. They also purchased a few pavers for deceased family members who served in the military. The cousins will be having their pavers and those of the deceased relatives placed together in the Paver Garden. Stan and Sandy Heldt Mayer, Minnesota
MY 87TH BIRTHDAY. I celebrated my 87th birthday on February 21st with daughter Val's new puppy, Eli, who just turned five months old. Eli was a highlight of my party, which was held at my daughter Jill's home. Jill prepared a wonderful meal. Also celebrating with me was Lois Jean, my understanding wife of 59 years. LOCAL FISH OUTING. Some of us held another fishing contest on Saturday, February 20th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Stieger Lake in Victoria. We had been waiting for the ice to thicken up. Mark Jesberg drilled all the holes with the new auger that he won at a past Victoria Fishing Contest. Mark said he drilled a hole in the middle of Stieger Lake and it was 16 inches thick. For the record, it's Minnesota and you drive on lakes at your own risk. This is how it's done. Jeff Chapman Victoria, Minnesota
