Howard Wigfield Shakopee, Minnesota EDITOR’S NOTE: Ever since the Dog Park arrived up the road, we don’t have the deer problem in our yard anymore. As I’ve always said, for every plus there’s a minus, and for every minus there’s a plus.

Get a Green Thumb. If you’re looking for ways to save money in this tough economy, search no farther than your backyard. Home vegetable gardening is really taking off. Everyone is grabbing a hoe and planting a garden to help stretch family food dollars. The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is helping to “grow” this new trend by serving as an invaluable resource for gardening ideas and assistance. Contact me if you’d like additional information. As part of the University of Minnesota, the Arboretum serves as a community and national resource for horticultural and environmental information, research, and public education. Barb DeGroot, PR Specialist MN Landscape Arboretum Chanhassen, Minnesota

State Champions. Can you feel the Chill? The Chaska Chill, a local 4th grade boy’s basketball team, recently won the 2009 MYAS Grade AAAA State Championship. The Chill, seeded 5th, made their way through an extremely tough tournament draw. They defeated seeded teams 12, 3, 1, and 2, to claim the State Championship title. This makes their second straight state championship as they were the 4th Grade REC State Champions last year. Front (l-r): Brock Hansen, Reid Young, Chris Wandling, Ryder Hutton of Victoria.
