Megan Forcier of Victoria is one of only 50 young women selected from 50 high schools in the metro area to receive the prestigious 2009 Minneapolis Athena Award. Each of the participating high schools selects one senior student who excels in individual or team sports. The 37th Annual Minneapolis Athena Awards will be presented at an Awards Luncheon on May 8th at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The Awards Luncheon offers an opportunity to encourage and recognize the achievements of young female athletes from public and private high schools in the greater Minneapolis area. Megan is graduating this spring from Benilde-St. Margaret’s. Megan earned 7 varsity letters, 5 conference awards, 2 section awards, and 2 state awards in hockey and track. She also served as captain in hockey during her senior year. Megan set a school record in the 4x1 relay. She identifies her favorite or earliest sports memory as “getting the chance to compete with the boys in hockey on a Pee Wee team in 7th grade.” Megan’s volunteer work includes Presbyterian Homes and Services as well as West Suburban Teen Clinic. She plans to attend the College of St. Benedict this fall, majoring in Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy. Congratulations, Megan, outstanding senior female athlete, 2008-2009! Megan is the daughter of Tim and Judy Forcier of Victoria and the granddaughter of Mary Moore of Victoria. Jeanne Lowe, Publicity, Athena Awards Minneapolis, Minnesota
State Champions. Can you feel the Chill? The Chaska Chill, a local 4th grade boy’s basketball team, recently won the 2009 MYAS Grade AAAA State Championship. The Chill, seeded 5th, made their way through an extremely tough tournament draw. They defeated seeded teams 12, 3, 1, and 2, to claim the State Championship title. This makes their second straight state championship as they were the 4th Grade REC State Champions last year. Front (l-r): Brock Hansen, Reid Young, Chris Wandling, Ryder Hutton of Victoria.
