MERIT SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT.  Colton Schrempp, son of Tom and Tracy Schrempp of Victoria, was named a Merit Scholarship Recipient at the University of Minnesota-Crookston.  A scholarship brunch was held for incoming Merit Scholarship recipients at the University of Minnesota-Crookston in late March.  The students learned about First Year Experience courses, financial aid, and registered for their fall 2018 semester classes.  During the brunch, the students were recognized, followed by the opportunity for a campus tour.

With an enrollment of 1,800 undergraduates from more than 20 countries and 40 states, the Crookston campus offers a close-knit atmosphere that leads to a prestigious University of Minnesota degree.

THE GAZETTE IN THE CARIBBEAN.  We took the Gazette with us on our Western Caribbean Cruise.  Your front headline in the March Gazette, "Coldest Ever Fishing Contest," was so ironic as we were in beautiful weather.

COMMITTED TO LOWERING THE COST OF HEALTH CARE.  I joined my colleagues in announcing initiatives to lower the cost of health care through price transparency.  As Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Health Care Consumer Access and Mobility, I am committed to bending the cost of health care downward.  Proudly serving the communities of Carver County.

A COLLECTOR'S PERSPECTIVE.  Before the Wilcock Gallery in Excelsior closed in 2015, Keith Wilcock curated several shows a year at the Arboretum.  In its more than 20 years of operation, the gallery frequently purchased pieces from the artists' shows for its private collection.  Now this rare cache of original art is being shown together.  Artists include Tom Foty, Andy Evansen, Ming Feng, Kai Liu, Kate Starling, and more.

GEESE FLYING OVER MINNEHAHA CREEK.  Thank you to everyone who entered the 2018 Earth Day Photo Contest.  We had many photo submissions, making this decision really tough.  We were also blown away by the quality and diversity of the entries, an equal testament to the skill of our residents and the beauty of our resources.

Some of the winners as chosen by the MCWD Staff include Canoes and a Duck on Bde Maka Ska by Dora Dias, Excelsior Beach by Joel Piontek, Art Shanties on Lake Harriet by Dora Dias, Cool Water & Cool Watermelon at Cook's Bay by Lydia Major, Geese Flying Over Minnehaha Creek by Aldo Abelleira.

EXCELSIOR BEACH LANDSCAPE.  The top three winners were chosen in two categories:  1) Landscape, and 2) Recreation.  First place winners received a $200 gift certificate to The Great Frame Up in Minnetonka.
