May Day.  Wednesday, May 1st.  A traditional day of festivities throughout the centuries.  Sometimes May baskets are made and filled with flowers and treats and left at someone's doorstep.  The giver rings the bell and runs away. 

 

St. Victoria Rummage Sale.  Thursday, May 2nd (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.), and Friday, May 3rd (7 a.m. to 3 p.m.).  At the St. Victoria Catholic Church.

 

National Day of Prayer.  Thursday, May 2nd.  The first Thursday of May in the USA.  All Americans regardless of their confession are called to turn to God in prayer for the nation.  Since 1952 the president of the USA signs a proclamation encouraging Americans to pray.

 

Happy 50th.  Roger and Marge Leuthner celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, May 5th, with dance and open house at Pla-Mor Ballroom in Glencoe.

 

Mother's Day.  Sunday, May 12th.  Celebration honoring mothers and motherhood.  An American holiday that also came to be celebrated in other countries.

 

City Council.  Monday, May 13th, and Tuesday, May 28th.  6:30 p.m. at City Hall on Stieger Lake Lane.

 

Property Taxes.  Wednesday, May 15th.   Payments must be marked no later than May 15th .  The first half of property taxes are due each year at this time.  Total amount paid includes taxes to Carver County, the School District, the City, and other smaller government entities. 

 

Full Moon.  Saturday, May 18th.  The moon is fully illuminated as seen from earth.  At Full Moon, the moon and sun are on a line with earth in between, as though the moon and sun are sitting on either end of a seesaw.

 

Armed Forces Day.  Saturday, May 18th.  Thanks to President Harry S. Truman, it's a day of national observance to pay special tribute to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.

 

Memorial Day.  Monday, May 27th.  The last Monday in May.  A day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service.  A federal holiday that originated after the American Civil War.
