To the Editor: The Victoria Lions would like to thank all the local businesses and friends who helped make this year's Halloween Party a success: The Victoria Business Owners Association for the donation of food, beverages, candy, and talent; the Victoria Fire Department; the Carver County Mounted Police; Mike Klingelhutz for the donation of pumpkins; Commissioner Randy Maluchnik (Frankenstein); Ann O'Neill and Cindy Larson (The Witches), The School of the Wise; Fresh Seasons Market; and Half Pint Horse Foundation. We had a great turnout and the families of Victoria had a great time. Laura O'Neill, Victoria Lions Club Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Thank you for your various articles about Lake Auburn Church. Tom Knowlton Excelsior, Minnesota
To the Editor: Victoria is so lucky to have an educated committed group of candidates running for Mayor and City Council. Each of them brings to the table unique strengths and qualifications. I hope all of them choose to be involved in Victoria's future, regardless of the results of this election. Two candidates are running for Mayor. Tim Gregory has grown up in Victoria and his family has deep roots in Victoria. He has taken the time to ask questions, attended various Victoria functions, and introduced himself to many Victoria residents -- both personally and in group settings. I look forward to Tim being involved in the City in the future. Tom O'Connor has lived in Victoria for fourteen years, is a former business executive, and served Victoria as an effective City Councilmember for four years. He has served as the Council liaison to all of the City's commissions and committees and has brought a honed perspective, gained from years of experience, to our City. I will be casting my vote for Tom O'Connor to be the next Mayor of Victoria. I believe that his skill-set will offer much to Victoria over the next four years. I look forward to reading about Tom and the next Council's many successes. Sincerely, Mayor Mary Hershberger Thun City of Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: I am writing this letter in support of Gordy Simanton for Victoria City Council. I had the honor to work with Mr. Simanton on a campaign in 2009. He demonstrated vision, a strong grasp of the issues, and the organizational skills to get things done. Mr. Simanton has described to me a vision for Victoria that includes reasonable growth that is managed in a fiscally responsible manner. He understands that it is important for a city to grow and thrive. Yet he acknowledges that cities must use taxpayer dollars wisely at a time when household incomes have stagnated. Mr. Simanton's experiences make him amply qualified for the job. He spent twelve years on the Victoria Planning Commission, nine years as Chair, and one year as Councilmember. In addition he has had a successful career that has allowed him to give time to public service. As a State Legislator I know the importance of good governance in our cities and counties. Gordy Simanton will help to make sure Victoria is a vibrant and attractive city in which to live and raise a family. Dave Thomson State Senator Lakeville, Minnesota
To the Editor: As a current member of the Finance Commission and previously as a Planning Commissioner, I have had the opportunity to observe and interact with Tom O'Connor many times. My overall impression is that Tom O'Connor is the voice of reason. Tom's perspective is always balanced, rational, and practical. He is a good thinker and does his homework. His background and experience speaks for itself. Tom O'Connor will make a great mayor. The City of Victoria is very fortunate to have him. Tom Vogt Victoria, Minnesota
