by Sue Orsen Spirits were high, winds were low, and temperatures moderate in downtown Victoria on Saturday, October 26th. The Halloween event brought swarms of parents and children out of the woodwork and into the streets, and they came with an appetite for tricks and treats. Victoria Lions provided hotdogs, s'mores, candy, and many games. The Victoria Fire Department brought one of their big beautiful engines. Victoria businesses welcomed guests to special activities at their establishments. The City of Victoria managed logistics and street closures. As Randy Miller, president of the Victoria Business Owners Association, said, "Without collaboration, these events would be difficult to continue." He also mused, "I think Victoria has become a destination." Where do all the hay bales and pumpkins come from? "Mike and Colleen Klingelhutz let me go into their pumpkin field and pick them directly at no charge," said Victoria Lion Kurt Zuppke. "The straw bales I pick up at their sales outlet just south on Hwy 101 in Chanhassen, but I return the hay to them because they sell a lot of it. I deliver everything to downtown Victoria by truck and trailer just before our party begins. We give all of the pumpkins away at the end of the party." Camaraderie in this colorful season puts spirits in a very good mood.

Larry and his Bagpipers visited Enki Brewing in downtown Victoria during the Halloween Party along with Mike Hoy on the accordion. The rousing stirring sound of the bagpipe raised spirits even further, as did the familiar and enthusiastic music of the accordion. Said John Hayes of Enki Brewing. "Funny thing is, we didn't find the bagpipers. They found us.” |
