ACCESS TO SCHUTZ LAKE THROUGH HOA

                  When the City Council and Planning Commission met jointly on September 6th, their first topic was a proposed development for the Swain property, a 20-acre parcel located on the northeast shore of Schutz Lake at Hwy 7 and Rolling Acres RoadIn general there was approval for Waterford Landing.  The proposed sketch plat showed 33 single family villa lots, all non-riparian but with lake access via two docks and pontoons.

MAKE DISTRICTS INSTEAD OF NEIGHBORHOODS

         Community Development Director Ben Landhauser presented on September 6th a revision of development ordinances that have existed in the City of Victoria, and been responsible for the way that Victoria has developed, for more than 20 years.  "Staff is looking at some changes to the ordinance, more efficient and more predictable ways, to give people a better understanding of what to expect moving ahead.”

 

TOTAL CITY TAX LEVY SAME AS FOR 2016

FIRE AND POLICE PROTECTION A PRIORITY

         "We are now recommending no levy increase.  We're very happy about that," said Finance Director Kelly Grinnell as she presented the preliminary 2017 budget.  A final 2017 budget must be adopted by year end.  After her presentation and discussion, Council voted 4-0 to approve the City of Victoria preliminary 2017 tax levy of $4,367,000.

WITH VICTORIA BUILDING STANDARDS

         As Community Development Director Ben Landhauser pointed out, "Daycare centers in a Central Business District need a CUP.  They already have one for their downtown location."  The Planning Commission motion included recommending approval of the site plan but with changes in the exterior building material to be in compliance with the city ordinance.

 

FINANCE STAFF SAVES VICTORIA $66,241

IN JUST ONE YEAR OF WASTEWATER USE/COST

         rates for Metropolitan Council Environmental Services were significantly reduced due in large part to thE work of City Finance Director Kelly Grinnell.  The City of Victoria paid $569,991 in 2016 based on 242.73 million gallons of wastewater flow.  In  2017, the amount will be $503,750 based on 202.74M  gallons of wastewater.

         A general discussion on the roles and relationship between the Victoria City Council, an elected body, and the Victoria Planning Commission, an appointed body, was held at the close of their joint meeting on September 6th, “taking advantage that you're both sitting in the room together."

 

LOOKING 25 YEARS AHEAD TO 2040

VICTORIA HOUSEHOLDS PROJECTED TO DOUBLE

         Community Development Director Ben Landhauser presented the overview.  He said that the population forecast for Victoria in 2040 is projected at 15,400 people which translates to about 5,700 households.  Today Victoria has a population of 9,000 and about 2,900 households.
