GAZETTE

January 2011

To the Editor:

Representative Paul Kohls has decided to move to the next chapter of his life with new and different challenges after serving the western part of Carver County in the Minnesota State Legislature for eight years.

Paul was a dedicated public servant and an integral part of Governor Pawlenty’s legislative initiatives during that time.  Representative Kohls spent many hours away from home and family to advocate for issues that he felt were important to the residents of his district.

Please join me in thanking Paul, his wife Kelly, and their children Stan and Caroline for his service to the State of Minnesota and to Carver County.

         Commissioner Randy Maluchnik

         Carver County, Minnesota

To the Editor:

I feel compelled to write to tell others how happy I am with the service, value, and quality of my new grocery store, Fresh Seasons Market in Victoria.  Although I technically live in Victoria, I consider myself an Excelsior resident due to the proximity of my home to Excelsior.

Prior to shopping at Fresh Seasons, I divided my shopping between a store in Shorewood and one in Chanhassen.  I decided to try Fresh Seasons after reading an article comparing prices between local stores and being fed up with throwing away produce on a regular basis and having such a limited selection of offerings in the meat department.

It was, indeed, the Victoria Gazette where I read the price comparison article, and I was ironically doing the exact same thing Missy Swenson was doing when I read it, so I suspended my search and have been shopping happily at Fresh Seasons ever since.

When I actually got to Fresh Seasons late this fall, I was so impressed.  Great quality and selection of meats, fresh produce displayed so attractively, and service plus!  Such friendly and helpful people who went out of their way to help.  The butcher actually brought an entire tray of short ribs to me in another aisle to give me a “better selection.”

When I checked out (with a check, no less, no identification required), my groceries were bagged with care, put in a cart, and wheeled out to my car through the foot of snow that had just fallen, and gently put in my car.  I was sold!

The greatest part of this is that I continue to spend less than I was on groceries (I am not throwing anything away), and my Christmas Eve prime rib I had previously purchased from a Chanhassen store was exactly half the price at Fresh Seasons than it was at their store and equal quality.

I have to wonder why more of you aren’t shopping there.  I have told all my friends and they tell me stories all the time of the fabulous service they too are receiving.  Please join us before it is too late and we lose this precious commodity.

To the Editor:

Hello, Sue.  Scott Carver Project Community Connect was funded entirely by cash and in-kind donations, and through the efforts of a volunteer steering committee, 140 community volunteers, service providers who volunteered that day, and Canterbury Park by donating the space and many of the amenities.

We are very happy with the response of our community to address the needs of those Living on Little within our borders.  Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can be of any assistance.  Hope you have a wonderful New Year.

To the Editor:

Winter can be a difficult time of year for individuals and families in Minnesota so the timing of ECHO’s new program “Community Action in Minnesota” is especially important.  The program provides information on Minnesota’s 28 Community Action agencies and the services they provide including:  Head Start, energy assistance, weatherization, affordable housing, food support, senior services, financial fitness, tax preparation, job training.
