VICTORIA GIRL SCOUTS LEAD CITY COUNCIL

IN RECITING PLEDGE TO FLAG AND NATION

Five members of Victoria Girl Scout Troop #15044 attended the February 27th meeting of the Victoria City Council in order to lead councilmembers and audience in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.  After the Pledge, Mayor Mary Thun said, "We appreciate that you came here tonight.  Do you know what a councilmember is?  Someone who makes all the rules.  If you have a complaint, come to us.  Actually, you should go to your mom and dad."

Mayor Thun again acknowledged her appreciation for the dedication and work of the Girls Scouts and their presence in  Victoria and at the council meeting.  "We really appreciate it," she said, pointing out that it was the initiative of City Clerk Jennifer Kretsch who arranged for this event.

Girls Scouts photographed (left to right) are Ella Alama, Katie Henry, Lindsay Thompson, Ashley Schuette, and Samantha Gates. Unable to attend: Alyssa Johnson.

I pledge allegiance to the flag

of the United States of America

and to the republic for which it stands,

one nation under God, indivisible,

with liberty and justice  for all.

OPENINGS REMAIN FOR CANDIDATES

WITH INTEREST IN VICTORIA COMMITTEES

City Administrator Don Uram reported February 27th that there have not been enough applicants for all the vacancies on the city's committees and commissions.  The Senior Commission still has 5 openings, the Park and Rec Committee 2 openings, and the Business Development Committee 3 openings.  Mayor Mary Thun stated that Park and Rec is ripe for a candidate interested in helping to design South Lake Virginia Shores Park up on Smithtown Road.  "It will be fun," she said, "because we have the money to do it and it's a blank piece of ground."  The Metropolitan Council had used that site for landing equipment in its regional sewer project and then compensated Victoria to rebuild the park.

REDISTRICTING PLAN AFFECTS VICTORIA

MANY CHANGES FOR THE RESIDENTS

Councilmembers were informed February 27th that the City of Victoria was impacted by the redistricting plan of the Minnesota Judicial Panel.  Prior to redistricting, the City of Victoria was in Congressional District #2; Victoria is now in Congressional District #3.  Victoria was in Senate District #34; Victoria is now in Senate District #47.  Victoria was in House District #34A; now Victoria is split into two House Districts.  All Victoria residents  who live north of Hwy 5 are now located in House District #47B.  All Victoria residents who live south of Hwy 5 now live in either #47A or #47B:  If you're on the west side of Victoria Drive, it's #47A.  If you're on the east side of Victoria Drive, it's #47B.
